Alpharetta Elementary School - PTO Newsletter

April 2018

Happy Spring!

     Only 24 school lunches left to be packed (23 if you plan on enjoying Ms. Vickye’s Cookout on May 10th) before we reach the close of this school year! This has historically been the way I count down the days to the end of the final quarter  and slide into the lazy days of summer. But this year is different...

     My youngest is completing 5th grade, so our family will be leaving AES and the relative, sweet simplicity of elementary school. It has been a year of "lasts" for us. This also means that I am sadly separating from all the projects that I have helped to support and grow in my various roles on PTO committees and the executive board.

     Certainly, my children's elementary school years have been richer for my family and for me personally because of my investment in the school community, for all the friendships that have deepened because of my work, and for the satisfying sense of accomplishment felt when working as part of our talented group of parents and teachers toward a common goal. The goals of the PTO are stated in our mission:

Alpharetta Elementary School’s PTO is proud to be an advocate of our children’s educational success and well-being, helping to enrich their lives both academically and socially so that each child’s potential is realized.

The mission of the PTO is three-fold:

1. To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;

2. To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise, protect and prepare their children;

3. To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this state.

     As part of our PTO Executive Board, I know first-hand that we are always working with this stated mission in mind. For anyone that is open to it, there are myriad ways that families and individuals can give, and also gain, from a relationship with AES school community and the PTO. These are the days when the foundation is being laid for the rest of our children’s lives. Volunteer - be part of the details!

      The 2018-19 PTO Executive Board has been nominated and will be voted on at the General PTO Meeting on May 9. Please plan to attend this meeting! The nominees are:

President – Brian Johnston
Co-President – Martha Dinges
Treasurer – Jeremy Mayer
Secretary – vacant
Administrator – Coretta Stewart
Teacher – Melanie Morgan
VP Community Relations – Carrie Kunath
VP Special Programs – Gina Kellis
VP Student Enrichment – Camila Salinas
VP Ways & Means – Alison Crain
VP Events – Stephanie Scher

     Have you been to school lately and noticed anything different? Is there any better way for the PTO to kick off spring than with the completion of the brand, new sport court on our front field? Many thanks to the fundraising efforts of Gina Kellis during the bed sheets sale last year (and to everyone that participated by purchasing sheets), and to Vicky Sanchez, Brian Johnston and Principal Stewart for attending to behind-the-scenes red tape to get it done!

See you around AES, at least for a short while longer!

Lisa Enderle, PTO Secretary
